On Sunday, June 12, 2016, students celebrated the completion of their Master of Arts degrees in International Policy Studies.

Faculty remarks were given by Karl Eikenberry, the Oksenberg-Rohlen Distinguished Fellow at the Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (APARC) in the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI). Eikenberry is also Director of the U.S.-Asia Security Initiative and an APARC faculty member.

Prior to his arrival at Stanford, Eikenberry served as U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan from May 2009 until July 2011, where he led the civilian surge directed by President Obama to reverse insurgent momentum and set the conditions for transition to full Afghan sovereignty. Before appointment as Chief of Mission in Kabul, Ambassador Eikenberry had a thirty-five year career in the United States Army, retiring in April 2009 with the rank of Lieutenant General.

Class remarks were given by Emma Kelsey, '16, who is from Saratoga, California, and concentrated in International Political Economy. An excerpt of her remarks can be found here.
