Position: Consultant – IPS/MPP Practicum
Position Type: Hourly contract work
Schedule: Up to a maximum of 20 hours per week

Pay range: $35 - $40/hour (determined by relevant experience)

Stanford University's Public Policy Program and the Ford Dorsey Program in International Policy Studies are seeking to hire a project consultant for the graduate practicum course. The consultant will work closely with the Graduate Practicum Instructor, Joe Nation, to assist 6 or 7 practicum teams comprised of 4 to 5 students with:
- the layout and structure of their policy arguments
- reviewing each team’s research methodologies and overall analysis
- proofreading and editing all written deliverables
- verifying accuracy of data and citations
The practicum course is described as follows:
Applied policy exercises in various fields. Multidisciplinary student teams apply skills to a contemporary problem in a major policy exercise with a public sector client such as a government agency. Problem analysis, interaction with the client and experts, and presentations. Emphasis is on effective written and oral communication to lay audiences of recommendations based on policy analysis. The course runs through two quarters (Autumn and Winter) and meets three times a week. The consultant should plan to attend one or more weekly practicum sessions to sit down with student teams to review their work and provide feedback. In addition, the consultant should be available to the practicum instructor and student teams via email. There is no designated office space available for this position.
Required qualifications:
- Graduate degree in public policy, international affairs or related field
- Strong analytical skills
- At least 3 years of policy related work experience
- Excellent written and communications skills
- Background in international policy making highly regarded
